"Natural" is a big word for many of our patients. They are educated on current trends in health-conscious living, and often include some holistic or alternative health practice in their daily lives - and they want to continue. In addition to medical solutions, we support women who opt for evidence-based alternative healthcare and clinically tested complementary therapies and have formed partnerships with a number of excellent practitioners. Bev Maya, Medical Herbalist, Dip.Phyt., MNIMH, MCPP "Natural medicine lends itself very well to providing the nutrients and environment for the body to heal itself. Since menopause is a process rather than a disease process, herbal medicine can facilitate a smooth transition through the gentle balancing of hormones." Bev has a degree in Chemistry from the University of Western Ontario, and has worked as a research chemist, focusing on the characteristics and personality of natural products. For 12 years she applied this knowledge to the pharmaceutical industry in medical research, marketing and sales. In 2000, after four years of intensive studies in medical sciences and clinical training Bev received a Diploma in Herbal Medicine at the College of Phytotherapy, UK. She is presently a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists as well as a professional member of the American Herbalists Guild. Bev's diverse experience makes her an important member of the multi-disciplinary team at the Westcoast Women's Clinic for Midlife Health. She is also the co-founder of New Leaf Natural Health Clinic, a clinical practice in North Vancouver where she employs herbal medicine, lifestyle and nutritional counseling, aromatherapy and flower remedies, specializing in women's health. Marcy Dayan, Registered Physiotherapist, BSR, MHA, MCPA "Through knowledge and skill, women can be empowered to trust in their bodies and make informed decisions regarding their health care. It's exciting and a privilege to be a part of this process." Marcy Dayan is a registered physiotherapist with specific training in the management and treatment of incontinence and vaginal/rectal pain. Since graduating from UBC with a Bachelor's Degree in Physiotherapy in 1984, Marcy has completed postgraduate courses in incontinence, pelvic dysfunction and orthopaedics. She has also completed a Master of Health Administration from the University of British Columbia. Active in both clinical practice and teaching, Marcy works in private practice, is a consultant to the Westcoast Women's Clinic for Midlife Health and is a guest lecturer on Pelvic Pain at the University of British Columbia's School of Rehabilitation Medicine (Physiotherapy).
